Recalling the collision of adrenaline, euphoria and dread at outdoor raves, long-closed squat-party venues, and the Jah Shaka soundsystem, Morwell reflects on the ability of the soundsystem to configure new bodily and emotional states, and on the disparity between euphoric communal experiences and a retreat into pleasures experienced alone, in states of uncertainty and imminent collapse.
With remixes from DJ Manny (Teklife / Planet Mu), DJ FLP and El Blanco Niño, Morwell’s debut album 'Souls' follows EPs, remixes and collabs with Loraine James (Hyperdub) and DJ Earl (Teklife / Moveltraxx), tracks on compilations from cult juke/footwork labels Juke Bounce Werk and District160, and production mixes for Violet’s Naivetape series and Object Blue’s Rinse FM show.
Morwell spent the 2000s playing drums, synths, and samplers in London bands, and experimenting with production. After a long hiatus, he took up this new project recently - as he described it in 2020: "I left London and started a new life in the North-East. It's peaceful and wild and empty. I stay up late making music..."
